森町の魅力や歴史、文化にふれます。

Enshu Mori-machi is located in a mountainous area in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, and is surrounded by small mountains on three sides, with the pristine Ota River flowing through its center, so the scenery is not unlike that of Kyoto.
Long ago, it prospered as a lodging town on Akiha Kaido, the road leading to Mount Akiha, which was revered as the god of fire prevention.
Folk houses with lattice doors still standing along the road and storehouses in back alleys are remnants of that era.
In July 1923, the geographer Shigetaka Shiga visited Mori, and named the town "Little Kyoto" for its beautiful scenery. It has been known as the Little Kyoto of Enshu ever since.
